LELEITA MCKILL

LeLeita McKILL is an American Black woman who is a photographer, director and mixed media artist. Leleita’s work covers art, fashion, and commercial projects with an emphasis on creating images that celebrate and promote the importance, beauty, and awareness of Black people, people of color, Queer people and the women in our world. She is advocating for more diversity in all business, culture and media and more care for our natural environment. Her work is featured in magazines, look books, catalogues, web and social media campaigns. Her personal work has been publicly exhibited and is included in both public and private collections. She has had the pleasure of capturing the portraits of many artists, activists, and important public figures as well as documenting many cultural events and photographing natural environments around the world.
 

LeLeita cites as her influences the works of photographers, Gilles Bensimon, Peter Lindberg, Annie Leibovitz, Shaniqwa Jarvis, Cindy Sherman, Mary Ellen Mark and Sally Mann to name a few.  She is also greatly inspired by the untold history and stories of women in America, her grandmother who raised her, the natural environment, breasts, lips, hair, Radiohead, T.V. on the Radio, 90’s east coast hip hop,(think Black Moon, Wu Tang, Mobb Deep, Nas and Lil Kim) and her own female gaze.

LeLeita is based in Seattle Washington and works locally in N.Y. and L.A.
